Looks very similar to surplus DMMs we scrapped for parts when I was in high 
school (1978).

I didn't have any schematics, and after testing several of them we found 
that the readings were very jumpy due to the intermittent contacts on the 
stepper switches. Even after using several spray cans of TV Tuner cleaner 
(remember that stuff ?) they didn't stabilize.

4 digits......would make a nice clock for the bookshelf.
