They are NO magic eyes, but VFD display’s like every other VFD 7-segment display the indication is by steps every dot (or triangle) is on or off
The Russians also had things like this, but with round dots and about the length of a IN9. Remarkable is the “zero” level display with up-down indication. I only saw such with LED’s.
