One can only image what one of those would auction for..... While it's impressive that 64 characters can be displayed, I'm 99.99% certain those characters are static. In other words, it's not a generic 64-character display that shows arbitrary messages. In order to do that, you would need a deflection/scanning system like a regular CRT. And since it's a round tube, there will be fewer visible characters on the top and bottom lines (datasheet says up to 5 lines / 8 chars per line).
I really feel sorry for IEE; they tried so hard to make this device work, but were just too late to market. The MAN-2 5x7 dot-matrix LED was on the market not much later than this ad was published.
