Many of the VFD boards I have used in the past seem to offer both serial and parallel interfaces - I'm wondering if that other unused connector has any markings suggesting it is an alternate of the usb connector? I'm working up the courage to pop one of mine apart... My old shaky hands don't seem to have a lot of luck with brittle plastics these days lol.
