Lonesome Hank,

I've been replacing mine and it's not too much trouble.  First remove
the daughter board (the "piggyback" one you mention), then carefully
pry up the four metal tabs holding the EQ switch to the long metal
bracket.  Unsolder the old switch, pry it off the metal bracket
carefully, then install the new switch, solder it in, and bend the
tabs back over.  I've done quite a few this way and it's fast and
easy.
