I agree with Ike, but have also embraced the fact that my studio can't support me full time right now. In my case, I do a myriad of things to keep them all going. I learned a LONG time ago that having a viable plan B, C, D, etc. in addition to the main plan A can never really be a bad thing. I have my studio, I tune/tech pianos, I do the occasional electronic repair job, and I wind pickups for a boutique bass guitar builder (we're planning to ramp up the pickup side of the business this year starting at NAMM [ www.watsonguitars.net). Frankly, I don't want to do any one thing day after day anymore as I find mixing it up to be far more interesting to me. Throughout my life I have moved in 7 to 10 year cycles in regard to employment and generating an income. What I've done now is just consolidate that idea and make all of them happen concurrently instead sequentially. Seems to work out OK for me so far.
