Hi Matt,
It sounds like your console is latched, or partially latched, in
Solo mode. Can you hear your mix out of the monitors, albeit in mono? If
not, that also points to something being solo'ed. I would suggest
exercising every solo / pfl switch on the console, ESPECIALLY ones you
"never use". Also, look for that time honoured classic, the binder /
keyboard / whatever object that is partially resting on one of the buttons.
If the master board has a burnt smell to it, give it a very thorough
inspection, with both your eyes and your nose. If a chip has failed,
sometimes they look ok on the top, but have burnt / split open on the
bottom. Before you pull the chips, though, have a look at the IC sockets
and see if you see any signs of heat, like ripples or bubbling in the
plastic, or distorted holes where the leads plug in.
My Series II doc's are at the shop, so I can't look into it any

find my S2 engaged in mono permanently. The mono light on the master
section is lit, regardless of the state of the switch and the solo
light is dimly on all the time as well. I pulled out the master
section to see if any connections were loose and it looks okay. PS
looks okay.
The master board does perhaps smell a bit funny... Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
