Thanx for all the answers!!i did have numerous problems with my elite
mainly cause i never had an experienced neotek look at it.to be honest
i was waiting to start recapping it so i wanted to fix the main
problem first. For years i had the spike problem which never actually
got fixed even after rebuilding the power supply!i decided to get a
brand new one. Up to that point i had installed proper grounding to
the console so i had no hums. Having said that i get tons of crackle
from pots an other minor faults but the console was operational.
Because of the problems of my old supply i had the 4 stereo channels
on the right of the master section disconnected and those channels did
show similar problems with mutes. I cant b sure it was the samw thing
tho as i had to compelely disconnect them from the mainboard. So after
swapping the ps all the spikes went away. I had to cut the cable from
the old supply to use the same connector and mike stoika said the
color code is right so its all connected properly unless some of the
groung pins should be somewhere else!!. Anyway my main problem at the
moment is hum when i have bus switch pressed.i suppose its there but
if all channels are muted its barely there.if i unmute a channel i
hear the hum a little and if i press the bus switch its really loud to
the point its actually unusable. At the same time the moment im muting
or unmuting i get these clicks i mentioned before. I have dozens of
other noises from defective channels and things but tgis hum is
everywhere independent of channels. I get it at the cue outputs in the
studio as well. I hope this more detailed info helps. I wish i could
get a good tech to have a look at it so i know at least what needs to
be done!!!thanx again!!

1) If you are having any weird behavior with mutes on an Elite, the
1st thing to do is go through each module and tighten the nut and
bolt that goes between the upper and lower circuit boards (just
between Aux-4 and the top Eq/Filter/Insert switches). This
connection is critical for the correct operation of the Mute FET's
as it carries the ground connection for that circuit.
2) There is something fundamentally wrong with your console. We have
been kicking this around here for something like two years (actually
since Feb. 21, 2008 to be exact). One thing I would check right away
is to make sure that ALL of the ground connections that come in from
the power supply connector are securely tied to the frame of the
console. This usually happens right below the L & R VU meters. Make
sure that all of the connections are there, and make sure that they
are tight. I think you have a mid 80's vintage Elite, which also had
a ground strap that ran from that point to the motherboard in the
master section. Make sure that is securely fastened to the
motherboard. I would then check to see that the frame is securely
bolted together.
Let us know what you find out. One more thing: Please give us any
and all pertinent background information...like especially if it WAS
working and then this cropped up, AND, if you were inside the
console for any reason before this came up.
