I use the direct outs which are unbalanced. The line ins are balanced. My buzz problem has been fixed for a while now. Lifting the shields fixed that. The digi 192 converter just so happens to be different than my previous second converter in that it needs the minus wire lifted. Typical avid bs. It's on loan and I'm getting rid of it soon so I'm not concerned with the drop in signal. And I should mention that I should have said when the 192 is plugged to an unbalanced input as well as the half normal to the line inputs of the console.

Sometimes lifting the shield isn't the answer though. For example, a digi192 suggests on the rear panel to lift the negative wire instead of the shield. Which is different than any other converter I've encountered. I have the studio wired with the shields lifted on the converters so whenever I plug into an unbalanced input on the neotek the signal is 6 db or so lower. To remedy this I'm getting a new converter.
