Hey there everyone. Long time lurker, first time responder. The opa627's are a great, but are more current hungry than the NE5534. If you plan on swapping a lot of 5534's with these, you may run into problems. I've had a great deal of luck with the OPA164x series of "Soundplus" chips. They're not as fast as the opa627, but they're also not as prone to oscillation in my experience. You'll definitely want to add bypass caps on the supply pins if you go with the 627's to help keep them stable. I recently recapped and swapped out all the chips on a client's Elan master section with the OPA1641 and OPA1642's and he was very happy with the results.

I am performing some preventive maintenance on my Series 1 16 channel console. Each module is the "plug in" style; not hardwired. The only major issue I have is channel strip two has no output which I have narrowed down to most likely bad solder joints on the female plug. But I thought while I'm digging around in the console to maybe try a few mods to experiment with. Perhaps the easiest being swapping out some IC's with different ones such as changing the NE5534's to OPA627's...any thoughts? Tom
