Oh, it is "Akonadi::ContactSearchJob" initially that remains in the "Running" state, hanging the composer window. And I have just noticed, it *only* gets stuck if I have used address autocompletion.
After that, when kmail is restarted, all its jobs (it being "kmail2-<number>") get stuck in "Initial" state for some time before eventually "Ended". That state can be as little as ~2 minutes or as long as ~10 minutes; I've not waited longer than that before giving up and using the web interface until reboot time.
