As said before on this list (look into the archives), the nmap progress
bar is bogus (ie: grows with the time, not with the actual progress of
the scan), as there's no way to really determine what the status of the
scan is.


If you enabled UDP port scan for 65k ports and did not play with the
timing options of nmap, the scan may take as long as 24hours to
complete.
