I don't recall seeing this mentioned here in nessus-users, so I'll ask: has anybody had problems with infinite hangs in the sendmail_ident.nasl script?
I'm running 1.2.5 with the plugins updated as of today, on a Linux platform with gcc 2.95.3, gnu libc 2.2.5. Running tcpdump showed no network activity from nessusd. Top showed each nessusd thread stuck in a tight run loop. Strace showed the only system call being executed was brk(0x.....) roughly once every second or two. After about an hour of this, I SIGTERMed each thread, whereupon the scan continued normally with the next script. Six hosts were being scanned, all of them stuck at the same spot. The default script timeout is 160 seconds, no special timeout was assigned to sendmail_ident.nasl. Oddly, nessusd.messages reported that the sendmail_ident.nasl scripts did their job in a fraction of a second (0.022, 0.035, ...). So perhaps the real culprit is not that script, but some attempt to load up the next one; the X11 client was simply reporting "Sendmail 8.6.9 ident" as it hadn't received any newer information?
