I have a firewalled host that I recently scanned with nessus v 1.2.6. I noticed that in nessusd.messages that there was a scan for bind_authors and bind_version but the firewall blocks all inbound traffic on port 53 which it looks like these 2 plugins use. The nmap scan (version 3.00) also shows that port 53 is not an open port. Also the nessus results file does not show any results for port 53.
Is there any way to validate that these plugins actually performed their test or not. I've tried using nasl from the command line but it does not seem to be working. I receive the following error when attempting to run 'nasl -t x.x.x.x bind_version.nasl' :
"bind_version.nasl : Warning : evaluating unknown variable - description" and no results are returned.
I realize that these 2 plugins are information gathering only but it concerns me that the firewall seems to have allowed it to take place.
