I am using redhat8.0. I originally started by doing the online installation. Then I got source and compiled and installed everything. I was using 9.6g of openssl. I got the new openssl 9.7 after that and recompiled and installed. Still same problem. I ran with sh -x the only error is the asn1 string to long error.I added a fullcopy of the std,cnf from the /tmp/nessus/ directory. I am wondering if some library that contains information about asn1 needs to be updated and then recompile everything. Im not to familar with making cert, but I tried that but it complained about some incompatiblity when I tried to run it. Could you point me in the right direction for making the cert manually?There was a seemingly identical problem mentioned on the mailing list late last month. In the end, the person worked around it by generating the certs directly using OpenSSL.If you'd like to pursue the cause, what OS are you using and which versions of OpenSSL have you tried? Also, when you run nessus-mkcert, it creates a scratch directory - probably /tmp/nessus-mkcert.$$. In that directory, there should be a working copy of the openssl configuration file; if you can see it, what does it contain? Also, do you see any additional errors if you run sh -x nessus-mkcert? Also I have been looking over the source code where the error is occuring. I can actaully comment out the check thats causing the error and force nessus to continue but I am not sure if this will screw everything up. Oh well I might as well try maybe it will work and I can help other people down the road.
