Have you checked out Yellowdog Linux ? www.yellowdoglinux.com Buy the Mac, get Darwin, & dual boot to YD linux, vastly superior to an Intel laptop.So if by some chance you do have a problem with your new Mac and YDL, support is on the website and mailing list. Good stuff and prices coming from those people. Check out the store, since your Euro is very strong now.
I use YDL, and have nessus, and ethereal running, I don't experience any such delays. Have a good day.

I tried it too, with the same success. However I'm really disappointed
by its speed - nessusd -D takes 44 seconds to load on an iBook@700Mhz.
