Hi ...

Platform:
All Nessus versions since 10.14 (using 1.2.7)
Solaris 7 & 8
Linux 7.3 & 8

Other than for manually or via gui editing the .nessusrc, are there any
other methods to be aware of that may update the .nessusrc without one's
knowledge. The reason I'm curious is that I had a situation whereby I
discovered considerable changes to my .nessusrc without my knowledge. I
want to eliminate/verify if this was due to Nessus or human intervention.

i.e.
Would updating plugins, restarting the Nessus daemon and running a new scan
cause this (I don't think so)

Would loging into the posix gui and then logging out without making any
changes cause this (I have seen this, however these have only been minor
smtp/snmp settings etc.)

Would Nessus reset .nessusrc permissions to read/write after a scan, should
you made it read only (I have seen this)

Many thanx for any advise and recommendations

Regards ...

Andrew ...
