Plugins are classified into one of several categories, described in
doc/WARNING.En, under the nessus-core source tree.  At least with Nessus
1.2.7, these categories are: ACT_ATTACK, ACT_DENIAL,
ACT_DESTRUCTIVE_ATTACK, ACT_INFOS, ACT_MIXED, ACT_SCANNER, ACT_SETTINGS,
and ACT_UNKNOWN. 

In the Nessus client configuration file, those plugins classed as
ACT_SCANNER, which refer to some type of port scanner or ping, would be
listed in the SCANNER_SET block; the others would be in PLUGIN_SET.

Yes, I have.  See <http://www.tifaware.com/perl/update-nessusrc/>.  It's
free and should work on any unix-like system with Perl 5 and Nessus
1.1.14 or better.
