What's "install-nessus.sh" -- something from Debian or do you mean
"nessus-installer.sh"?

If you mean "nessus-installer.sh", I don't believe it tries to call tar
with an 'a' option.  Did you check the MD5 checksum for the file? What
do you see, especially when this error occurs, if you invoke it as "sh
-x nessus-installer.sh"?

Do you have wget or lynx installed? If you're compiling from source 
and configure can find either one, then nessus-update-plugins will be
ready to work, although you'll still need to tell it about any 
proxy you might need to use.
