Here are some questions to consider:

  o Are you connecting to the right daemon on the right host? 
    Successfully? Check the daemon's log (eg, nessusd.messages).

  o Is the daemon loading the plugins?  To check, set 
    "log_plugins_name_at_load" to yes in nessusd.conf, restart 
    the daemon, and then check the log (eg, nessusd.messages).

  o Can you obtain a list of plugins from the commandline?
    For example, run "nessus -qp localhost 1241 <user> <pass>"
    and you should see a list of plugins available on the 
    local server.
