Version of Nessus:
nessus (Nessus) 2.0.7 for Linux

Ok, this is something I noticed recently. We found a compromised
system that had an SMTP and POP relay running on higher ports
(3300+), and a proxy server on 3382.

If I nmap a system without defining the ports, the scan misses
anything higher than 3001.

However, if I define the ports on nmap (-p 1-15000), it finds the
evil ports listening on 3300+.

This brings me to Nessus. I have it defined to use Nmap and scan
through port 1-15000. However, it doesn't hit any ports higher
than 3,000.

What gives? Thanks for helping the confused,

-Anne
