Yeah, I've seen similar behavior when scanning HP-UX boxes with most versions of "nmap". You'll see the same thing on SMTP (sendmail) as well (a couple of log entries regarding NULL connections followed by a dump).
And, while we're talking HP-UX, you'll note lots of false positives on the snmp_default_communities nasl, as some frikkin bug within HP SNMP replies to probes with community string == snmpd even when "snmpd" is not the community string.... this isn't a knock against HP-UX (well...yes it is), but HPUX boxes go down quicker than a M$ box (though not as quick as SCO ;-) ) I've often wondered why the published security researchers don't have more stuff on HPUX....
