It really depends on how you look at it. The feature is not important for the security scanner to work properly of course, but it is important if you want to leverage the data produced from the report. I deliver these reports to management to show the weaknesses in our environment and raise awareness. This helps quite a bit since they control the money! Just recently, it helped to get additional funding for patch management tools. It has also identified groups in the company that have improved their security or need to improve their security procedures.
A successful security program must have management support and the tools we use should help us with not only getting the information, but presenting it as well. Unfortunately, with many managers...it's all about the presentation. I don't think that will ever change.

If *this* is really important for a security scanner, then I suppose that the most important feature of a fighter plane is the color of the painting.
