Actually, that is a not a good way to update Nessus' plugins on your Linux
box either. You will only be as recent as the Debian package, while Nessus
plugins are actually updated daily. Nonetheless, the answer is really
simple (for both your Linux and BSD boxes):  nessus-update-plugins. It is
a script that does exactly what its name suggests. It is part of the
standard Nessus install.
