As a vendor that relies heavily on Nessus, I would like to chime-in here with *support* of Renaud's and Tenable's decision on this matter. There are plenty of companies out there that are (and have been for a long time) taking Nessus, bundling it in some black-box, and claiming Renaud's/Tenable's/Nessus-Community's hard work as their own. They contribute nothing back and never give credit where credit is due. This is just simply wrong.

As a company that does use Nessus in a commercial capacity, we have always strived to "play fair." We never do anything to hide our use of Nessus (or many other tools), we contribute several things back to the Nessus community, we try to participate actively. In the end, we have nothing to hide and strongly applaud Renaud's/Tenable's decision to force companies that have abused Nessus to play fair.

I fully realize my perspective on this matter will not be fitting for everyone. Nonetheless, it seems fitting to let it be heard that I feel it is easy to use Nessus commercially AND to be fair, honest, reasonable, and respectful.
