What do you have set as your port range. When I select to scan all ports, it takes much more time than that. When I have it set to run just the known ports, its more like 15 minutes.

Also, do you have "Optimize Scan" checked? That will make it so nessus does not run checks that are not pertainent.

I'm finding that Nessus-2.2.4 (and previous) on a P-IV takes 30-50 minutes to do a full scan a single LAN-connected Windows host - including local Admin access to access the Registry/etc.

Scanning a Linux box with root/password takes a similar amount of time.

There are a lot of tests, but I have set max_checks=15 on both client and server, so several should be running simultaneously.

Does that sound about right, and if not, any ideas as to what I have set up incorrectly that could be slowing things down? Nessus certainly looks busy while it's running (i.e. top shows nessus processes taking the majority of resources)
