it works. There are many examples for this.
If you apply proprietary business concepts to 
a Free Software product you likely fail. Those
stories are usually misinterpreted as "the Free
Software business model failed" :-(

I am not saying it is easy to earn money
with Free Software. In fact it is hard.
But possible.

There are also differences in the market. The
European Market is much more open to
the Free Software concept. It is easier to make
money with it over here.
(You can make money with Free Software in
US as well, but in most cases you should not
tell it is Free Software you are selling).
