I received the above error when attempting to start nessusd -D after doing a nessus-update plugins. Based on a previous response from Renaud Deraison, I was able to resolve the issue with nessusd - R. What does this option do - I see no explanation in the help or online documentation?

It re-generates the database of plugins. I'll make sure this goes in the man page.

In addition.... can someone remind me what file I could look at to troubleshoot nessusd startup issues? I believe there is a log somewhere. I no longer see the count of plugins as of v3. Can this be found somewhere also?

The count of plugins was inaccurate in 2.2.x too (which is why it goes away entirely) -- it would just report the number of files in the plugins directory. You can get the same result by doing :

ls /opt/nessus/lib/nessus/plugins | wc -w
