There are a couple of things you should check:
o Is nessusd running?
o Is nessusd listening on the correct interface? Use
something like lsof / netstat to check.
o Are there any iptables rules blocking access to
port 1241 on the interface nessusd is using? This
is unlikely if you're using lo (for the localhost)
but perhaps I'm misunderstanding the error message
you quoted.
o Are you typing the hostname correctly? For example,
if it's truly running on localhost make sure you
type "localhost" rather than "local host".
