Several minutes look very high. That's odd.
Is the daemon and the client running on separate machines? Is the
network link between them quick enough?
Are your machines (both Nessus server & client) strong enough?
And last but not least, which version are you running?
Nessus3 should be quicker on a laptop with a slow disk or limited
resources.
