I am attempting to get ssh key authenticated scans working with Nessus.

How are you running the Nessus server? You mention testing access with putty so I suspect Nessus for Windows, but then you say you're using NessusWX too...

I have the keys in place and can login using say putty with the keys. I have set the public and private keys in the nessus plug in options (using NessusWX) to use the public and private keys.

Have you also configured the scan to use the appropriate account for SSH?

Which type of key did you generate (SSHv2 RSA or DSA)? And how did you generate it?

When you run a scan, what do you see in the logs on the targets?
