Greetings,
   I need help with an error in Windows Nessus 3.0.5. When I run Nessus,
it completes a scan just fine (as noted by the IDS) however during the
scan, at some random point not more than a few hours in to the scan
process I get the following error:

        Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

        Runtime Error!

        Program: C:\Program Files\Tenable\Nessus\NessusGUI.exe

        This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an
        unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for
        more information.

The event logs on the server show no unusual activity. The logs within
Nessus say that everything completed normally. If I click the "OK" box
on the error however, the entire Nessus scan just stops. The Nessus
logs just show the last event written with no info about the exit. If I
just leave the dialog box up the scan appears to complete (the Nessus
log shows 65,556 nodes scanned successfully on a 16bit subnet scan for
example) however the report never gets written, making the scan useless.

The environment is as follows:
      * Windows 2003 Enterprise server sp1 on a Windows 2003 Server
        Active Directory Domain
      * Server is a Dual 2.xGHz Dell 2850 (maybe 2650) server with 2GB
        RAM.
      * No other processes are configured to run from this server
        (Microsoft AD tools, resource kit tools and a few other small
        tools are installed, but none running)
      * No other users are logged on (remote connection or otherwise)
Trying to scan a 16bit or 24bit subnet produces this result. Trying to
scan just a dozen machines or so does not. This stands to reason
though as it appears to be consistently about 2-3 hours in to the scan
that it throws the error.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Nessus (including removal of all
files left behind and a search and destroy of registry keys) as well as
downloaded new script files. I've never been able to get a scan to
complete on this server. Here's the odd thing though, I was able to
get the scan to complete on a Dell GX270 with 512mb RAM running Win2k3
enterprise server (yes, really) without error.

I just want to be able to read the report... any ideas?

thx,
