Nessus is incorrectly identifying a version of Red Hat Linux and
recommending an update to the kernel. We are running Red Hat
Enterprise Linux AS v. 2.1 for i386, which is a 32 bit version
running the most up to date kernel, 2.4.9-e.72smp. But the security
hole identified by nessus is requesting a kernel update to
kernel-2.4.18-e.31 which is a 64-bit kernel. The scan is
authenticated so nessus is not relying on the banner to identify the
host and when we do an up2date for a kernel RPM on the host there is
no available updates from RH. Does anybody have suggestions as to
why this is occurring? Thanks.
