Hi Joe, I personally have not tested Nessus on Virtual PC 2007 and I don't know how you've provisioned your virtual machine, so it's difficult to give a yes or no answer. Most Nessus users I speak with run it in VMWare, *if* they are deploying it virtually, which is why you may not have gotten any response to your email.
Usually, the vast majority of issues with virtual machines is networking. If your system is NATed, check the IP. If the system is using real IPs, ensure there is no conflict with another live IP. If you have any other IP connectivity from your real system to the virtual system, this can tell you that routing and such works. You said a firewall is turned off on a virtual machine interface. I've seen issues with firewalls on the real system interacting with virtual machines and you may also have a firewall on the virtual system itself. Lastly, can you run the Nessus Client on the virtual system and see if it can connect locally to make sure its not a Nessus issue (nessusd.exe not running or something like that).
