I tried with a completely fresh instance of Debian 4.0, with the same results. Have now managed to get around the problem by setting up an instance of Ubuntu, on which it installed as expected from the instructions. Since Ubuntu is based on Debian anyway this suggests that there might be a problem with the Nessus 3.2.1 Debian installer.
