I agree with the other points. There is a pre-existing alternative provider, dnsjava: http://www.xbill.org/dnsjava/doc/org/xbill/DNS/spi/DNSJavaNameService.html sun.net.spi.nameservice.provider.1=dns,dnsjava I am wondering (I think it could be educational for dealing with the bug you found), what happens if you try this one?
