Are you specifying a community name on your command line? I've noticed that the agent will timeout if you specify an incorrect community name. If you aren't specifying the community on the command line, you need to have it in your snmp.conf.

I haven't used the agent on Red Hat under a VM, but can't think of any reason it wouldn't work (especially through a loopback interface).

Mack

Meanwhile, I recompiled the agent without any additional module, and
tried to retrieve an existing object value (system.sysDescr.0). The
response I got now was Timeout.
Before installing this package, I had net-snmp 5.0.6 on my machine, and
had no such problems.
I'm running RH9 2.4.20-8 under windows virtual machine.
Is there any problem with that?
Liat.

When you compiled the agent did you add
--with-mib-modules='examples/ucdDemoPublic examples/example' to your
configure command? This is necessary to compile the code for the
example modules.

Hi,
I'm trying to write a net-snmp MIB module using the example found in net-snmp.org.
When I try to get the object value by issuing the cmd

snmpget localhost NET-SNMP-TUTORIAL-MIB::nstAgentModuleObject.0
I get the following error:

NET-SNMP-TUTORIAL-MIB::nstAgentModuleObject.0: Unknown object identifier

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Liat.
