Robert,
Thank you for applying the fix.

 I did a cvs update -d on my copy of the main CVS branch,
then did a fresh configure/make/install.  Started the new agent.

The assert no longer appears.

The problem [no items in tcpConnTable] persists on systems retested
  [Linux Fedora Core 2, FreeBSD 5.2.1]
