I have problems with nearly every 5.x Version,
especially the perl stuff, on AIX 4.3.3 using gcc
is anything done to improve compatibility?

Feel free to ask me for testing code on AIX4.3.3 Powerpcs.
But I have to say I am not a natural c coder and only have little
knowledge of compiling stuff.

Mike's probably been the most active recently.
Robert seems to be concentrating on the more interesting stuff
involved with 5.2, and I've been busy arguing with Robert :-)
So it really depends on how confident Mike is over his recent
changes.

I'd be inclined to suggest that if there are any further non-trivial
changes to apply, they should be made today. Then we make one release
today (being a Friday!), another next Friday (2nd) and the full 5.1.2
release a week further on - 16th July

Whether today marks the start of a "severe code chill" (5.1.2.pre3)
or a "code freeze" (5.1.2.rc1) probably isn't too vital. Nothing
much should be going into the V5-2-patches branch over this next week.
(And only the *most* essential in the following week)

Dave
