There are two basic approaches - either to have the apache server dump out the necessary information (or provide a suitable interface to retrieve it), or else to embed a "subagent" within the apache server itself. I seem to recall that Harrie Hazewinkel did something along the lines of the latter, but I'm not sure what the current status of this is. But the first issue is definitely to determine what information you're actually interested in.
