Unless there are any objections I am going to change the installer script to use text logging by default. I think there are enough instructions in the README for those who would rather use an alternative logging method to register the service manually. I would like to keep the log file in the Net-SNMP usr tree. No need to litter outside of the environment by default. How does [drive:]\var\log\snmptrapd.log sound?

another application. IMO text file logging is a better option, but others may disagree. I have looked into cleaning up the message file in the past, but if anyone else has some insight into the Windows event log it would be appreciated.

Mike mentioned bug 926389 in another email that explains the problem with the event log. I think it would be a good idea to default to a text log in the 'Register Trap Service' batch file. c:/snmptrapd.log is fine with me. It would be nice to disable the event log too as a default..

event log isn't ready for prime time. bug # 926389 has a patch, but it won't help the command generator applications.

Text file logging works universally well. I second that choice when
picking nice settings to include when registering snmpd/snmptrapd !
