I haven't actually looked at the example file under discussion,
but I'd be all for updating the EXAMPLE.conf file.  The current
one doesn't seem to have been touched at all for at least 18 months.

I'm sure there are many things that could be done better now, or
new features that could usefully be illustrated.

Personally, I'm not particularly bothered about sticking closely to
the 'snmpconf' style.  I've never found this a particular useful tool
[Yes, I know - I'm hardly a typical user!],  and find it more confusing
than a well-commented (or even poorly-commented!) example config.

If the two styles can be brought into reasonable agreement, then so
much the better - but I don't think consistency should be the main
driving force here.

Yup - EXAMPLE.conf goes way way back.  snmpconf is a johnny-come-lately :-)
