I downloaded/build the MinGW cross-compile stuff for linux today, and tried
building. It didn't even make it out of snmplib.

Did you use the cross-configure.sh and crossh-make.sh scripts? What arguments did you give configure? What is configure showing as the target?

Even if you are building on a Linux host you will still need GNU regex to build Net-SNMP. The one suggested in the README is one that I built at:

http://www.boedog.com/net-snmp/gnu_regex/regex-0-12-mingw-r2.tar.gz

There are binaries in the tar file so copying the library and the header to the appropriate MinGW directories should do it. The scripts that I use to build MinGW and configure and build applications *with* MinGW are from the SDL site and attached here. That is probably what you used, but just in case...here they are. I hope this helps, but if not just let me know.
