MSVC7's license is incompatible with the majority of open source licenses. See the conditions on distributing the necessary MSVC7 DLLs.


MSVC6's license is compatible.

This causes me no end of grief as I have MSVC7 and I can't link with DLLs from other projects built with MSVC6, and the other people can't rebuild with MSVC7 because the license will not let them distribute the DLLs.

I would much rather have MSVC6.
