I ran your program (with the minor change of /tmp/sig -> echo testing), with
the following (expected) results:
setting alarm 1, for 3 secs
atime=0
waitread 5...
callback
select(): Interrupted system call
setting alarm 2, for 3 secs
atime=0
waitread
callback
select(): Interrupted system call
testing
This is on Linux 2.6.9...
