Probably. I don't think anyone has ever done a serious audit of its use.

I don't quite follow what your problem is. Can you describe it in a little
more detail?

As discussed in another thread recently, there are other functions that can be
used instead of gettimeofday, but each replacement would have to be considered
on a case by case basis.
