As I said earlier, the new mfd code already does ifdefs in it's headers, so
nothing should be affected on unsupported systems.

Of course, it'd be nice if someone would port some of the rewrites to another
OS (it's really just extracting code from exiting implementations and
moving/reorganizing to the new method) just to see if we like (or can at
least live with) the general layout I made up.
