We have been trying to set an OID value using a python script started as a
"pass_persist" EXEC in snmpd.conf. Our experience was the same as described by
Jakob Scheck in a previous thread
(http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=11595889
<http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=11595889> ): when we
tried to set values with a wrong type, the snmpset command reported success.

With debugging information, we found that the "wrong-type" string was returned
from the python script to STDOUT, and the "snmpd" received the error string.
However, this error report seemed to be ignored somewhere and nothing was
returned to the SNMP manager. Therefore, the SNMP manager thought that the SET
operation was successful. We tried with both "snmpset" and SNMPc (a commercial
SNMP manager product ) and both behaved the same way.

We also noticed that this problem was reported as a bug
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=12694&atid=112694&func=detail&aid=864281)
in 2003. However, there haven't been any followups on this issue.

We'll appreciate any help or advices.

Lily
