FYI, you might check out the MIB in the following document:

  ftp://ftp.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-disman-remops-mib-v2-09.txt

Which is the IETF standard mib for doing what you want.  Net-Snmp has
some beginning code in agent/mibgroup/disman/ping but it's not in
perfect shape and doesn't compile on anything but linux (if that).
