Maybe I wasn't clear...

The point that I was making was when the only management interface
that is provided to a managed subsystem is an agentX sub-agent,
then all managers of that subsystem must be agentX
master agents (or SNMP managers talking to the SNMP agent
that then talks to the agentX subagent). I find this
undesirable, and prefer approaches that are generic
and easy to use by any management interface (such
as the CLI, embedded WEB server, etc). If one really
wants to use agentX subagent, then I suggest that
another management interface be created that the
agentX subagent uses instead of binding the agentX
subagent directly with the management subsystem.
